Primary Healthcare

Family Doctor
Family doctors are the first point of contact for most healthcare needs. They provide general healthcare, referrals to specialists, and management of chronic conditions. However, finding a family doctor in Newfoundland can be challenging due to a shortage of healthcare professionals. Newcomers may need to use walk-in clinics while searching for a regular family doctor

Community Walk-in Clinics:Clinic for patients without a primary care provider. No appointment or MCP required
Telehealth
Newfoundland and Labrador offer 811 Telehealth, a free service where registered nurses provide non-emergency health advice by phone. This is a great option for getting medical information without needing an in-person visit.
Nurse Practitioners
Nurse practitioners can diagnose, treat, and manage many common health issues, and may work in collaboration with or as an alternative to family doctors, particularly in areas with doctor shortages.
