Enhancing your skills can boost communication, job prospects, and integration into Canadian culture. Service providers you can go to to improve your English:
  • Association for New Canadians (ANC):  Language Training and Assessment this program offers English as a Second Language (ESL). In-person classes are offered at the ANC Adult ESL Training Centre in St. John's and at the ANC regional office in Corner Brook. Additional throughout the province via the Outreach ESL Tutor Program.   • Bethesda: attending The Conversation Café program offers people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds the opportunity to improve your English proficiency in a friendly and interactive environment. Levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advance, online and in person. Free. More information at link Bethesda
  • Multicultural Women’s Organization of Newfoundland and Labrador (MWONL): is a provincial organization that provides support and services to immigrant women and their families. Their services include social integration, English language training, employment readiness, individual counseling, health, and wellness. Link MWONL partner organization
  • Teachers on Wheels  brings tutors to adults and children to support learning, homework, and English language skills.
    211 is a free, confidential service that connects you to local programs and supports, including English language and newcomer services. Call 2‑1‑1 or search online to find help in your community.  
  • The Newfoundland and Labrador Laubach Literacy Council, Inc. (NLLLC). Is a provincial, non-profit, volunteer organization. Whether you need tutoring for reading, writing, math, or need English tutoring as a speaker of another language, they can help. Email info@nlllc.ca. Phone: (709) 634-5081 or 1-800-863-0373.
  • Stella's Circle: English as an Additional Language (EAL) Classes:  Free English classes for newcomers. Open to everyone, no language level or immigration status required. Flexible schedules and learning plans based on your needs. No tests, no fees, and a safe, supportive learning environment. More information at link Partner Organizatios - Stalla's Circle.
  • YMCA The YMCA Conversation Cafe offers informal English practice for newcomers (18+). Mondays (6:30-8:00 pm) and Thursdays (2:30-4:00 pm). No registration or fees required.
  • YWCA: The YMCA  Workplace Language Development Program an 8-week program for newcomer women and gender-diverse folks (ages 18+) who identify English as a barrier to employment. More information about programs link YWCA.
