Child Education

In Newfoundland and Labrador, child education is inclusive and free for students from kindergarten to Grade 12. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and bilingualism in English and French. Families can choose from public and private schools, along with early learning programs and daycare options.
Public Education: All public schools in Newfoundland and Labrador are funded by the Department of Education. 
  • English schools are operated by the Department of Education, Education Operations Branch as NLSchools (with regional offices in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Corner Brook, Gander and St. John’s) and 
  • French schools are operated by the Conseil Scolaire Francophone, guided by trustees.
