What to Bring to Canada
Before moving to Newfoundland and Labrador, it is important to consider which things you might need to take care of your health. Here are some ideas of what to bring from your home country:
- Medical records: Since there is typically a 3-month waiting period for MCP eligibility, consider purchasing temporary private health insurance to cover any medical needs during this period.
- Prescription medications: In order for a doctor to prescribe you medication, they might need to do the necessary testing. Therefore, if you take any regular medications, ensure bringing enough to last for the first few months to avoid any delay in treatment (including syringes or any other medical appliances).
-
Immunization records: Immunization is not mandatory for adults, but schools and childcare centers may require proof of immunization for children. Therefore, bringing official copies of immunization records (ideally in English) is important when moving to this province.
(*) If you or your children need vaccines, a family doctor or any public health clinic or pharmacy may complete the recommended immunization. These vaccines are often provided at no cost for children and certain vulnerable populations. - Temporary Private Insurance: Since there is typically a 3-month waiting period for MCP eligibility, consider purchasing temporary private health insurance to cover any medical needs during this period.
