International Education Newfoundland and Labrador (IENL) is the provincial association dedicated to championing and advocating for international education across Newfoundland and Labrador. As a non-profit organization, IENL plays a pivotal role in providing robust support to international graduates from the province's leading post-secondary institutions, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN) and the College of the North Atlantic (CNA). Since 2018, IENL has successfully managed the Study and Stay NL program, building upon the achievements of the initial pan-Atlantic program.
Beyond the Study and Stay NL program, IENL collaborates with its members to enhance recruitment efforts, foster greater cultural diversity within the province, and ensure international students' expectations are met. The organization is committed to assisting the provincial government in achieving its immigration targets and enriching Newfoundland and Labrador's global cultural landscape.
IENL’s core values are centred around support and advocacy, collaboration, retention and integration, diversity and inclusion, and empowerment.
Our key programs and services include:
- Study and Stay NL Program: A competitive initiative designed to attract and support exceptional international students interested in long-term settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides skills for successful transition into the Canadian workplace, cultural integration, and exploration of diverse career and entrepreneurial pathways. Support extends from early academic years through to one year post-graduation, aiming for an 80% retention rate for participating students. The program is delivered through a hybrid format of virtual workshops, SEED Competition, and in-person events.
- Empowerment Bridge Program: In partnership with Expertise Hub Co-operative, IENL has rolled out the Empowerment Bridge program to expand support to the Study and Stay NL alumni by providing expanded access to mentorship and training in unregulated fields. This project is designed to empower international students and alumni by bridging the gap between academic achievement and professional success. Through tailored mentoring, practical skills training, and personalized roadmaps grounded in equity and inclusion principles, participants will gain the tools needed to excel in Newfoundland and Labrador’s labor market. This initiative reflects shared vision of fostering innovation, professional growth, and meaningful connections within our diverse community. The program offers a comprehensive, participant-centered pathway to employment by combining assessment, skill-building, mentoring, and evaluation.
